First Fixed Blade - With the recent technological improvements have come a long way to jackknife, but in the end they will never be as strong a proven durable as fixed blade knives. Fixed blade survivalist knives have a full tang that extends all the way up to the butt section of the handle, and every one of my top 5 pictures a full tang, fully fixed blade survival knife.
Second Top Notch Steel - This could very well be seeing the most important for survival in a knife and is certainly one of the most discussed topics when it comes to the survival knife. While there are literally hundreds of types of steel, my top 5 photos from either stainless steel, carbon steel or a mixture of the two, that's my personal preference.
Third Blade thickness and / or heat treatment - Lets face it, survival knives made not to cut tomatoes for your next dinner party catering in slices, these knives are meant to hack, save Slash, chop, skin and your life! First KA-BAR 7 "Fighting / Utility Knife-you can not always search for quality survival knife drive without KA-BAR. These knives are well tried and have so much history and practical experience that many do not even consider going with another brand. KA-BAR uses a 1095 Cro-Van steel, a stainless steel / carbon mix that is extremely hard and very durable, and yet just soft enough to be to hold a razor sharp edge. There are many types of KA -BAR Knives survival gear but the one I like most is the 7 "blade with a Kraton G handle, they produce a leather handle, but I found Kraton G to be much better for grip and MUCH more weatherproof. Also, make sure to buy it with Kydex sheath, Kydex beats the crap out of leather hands down, do not have the few extra dollars, just get it! This knife can literally do anything and was used by the USMC for years as their standard-issue knife, and for good reason, this knife is just amazing.
Second Becker BK2 Campanion Survival Knife Ethan Becker broke the mold when he created these bad boys, with a blade of 1/4 "this thing could withstand a nuclear attack! With a true full tang design, where the handle is literally 2 pieces Givory crude steel is to put it honestly has the toughest knife out of my top five all be. the Becker BK2 is tough as nails, I put videos of people, hundreds and hundreds of pounds of weight on the knife, without even so much as batting batting saw that designed with a nice drop-point design and one of the best combination of sheath in the business and you have yourself a knife that will cut out and with the most $ 400 survival knife at a fraction of the price! My The only problem with this survival are knives that the blade might be a bit short for batoning Wood said that when I tested this knife I found it easiest to bat with super due to its thick blade. His big brother, the Becker BK7 has a 7 "sword against the BK2 the 5" blade, but it's a bit thinner and comes with a nylon sheath instead of Kydex, very disappointing. why I have the BK2 choose on the BK7, but frankly you can not go wrong with either.
